Jay Cutler and Mike O’Hearn continue to showcase incredible longevity well into their fifties. On February 6, 2025, the two discussed their commitment to training seven days a week. Cutler also shared advice on how often less experienced gym-goers should work out.
Jay Cutler recognized the transformative impact of disciplined nutrition and rigorous training from an early age. This understanding propelled him into the competitive world of bodybuilding, where he flourished on stage. Throughout his storied career, Cutler achieved the monumental feat of dethroning eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, ultimately securing four prestigious Sandow trophies during his peak years.
Despite stepping away from the competitive spotlight, Cutler continues to uphold a remarkable, chiseled physique. Similarly, Mike O’Hearn has sustained an impressive career, not only as a decorated bodybuilder but also as a fitness model and devoted strength training enthusiast.

Cutler and O’Hearn opened up about their commitment to training every day, even in their fifties, showcasing their relentless passion for bodybuilding and fitness.
“We train seven days a week. I do actually it’s now 12 times a week because I do it twice a day. The point is we’ve got to a level of where we know how to recover from this. But that’s so not textbook in no world,” states O’Hearn.
The former four-time Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, revealed that skipping workouts would drive him crazy, as lifting has become an integral part of his daily routine and mental wellness.
“I still advise people to train on a three-on, one-off, two-on, one-off schedule. But I train seven days. I love it,” said Cutler.
While this intense schedule works for them, Cutler recommends that most lifters follow a more balanced approach, such as a 'three-on, one-off, two-on, one-off' split to allow for recovery and muscle growth.
“If I told you to stop it, I need you to do just textbook, train four days a week, with a day off in between if you’re fatigued, stay on your meal plan, how long would you last? How long mentally would you last?” asks O’Hearn.

“I’d go mentally insane. I started with the mental mindset that weight training put me in. When I got under that bar, or I was doing curls, my mind-muscle connection — the gym was my savior.
Both men demonstrate extraordinary longevity and vitality in their fifties, attributing much of their sustained strength, youthful appearance, and mental clarity to their rigorous training regimens. Cutler emphasized that while their intense routines suit them, most lifters would thrive on a less demanding schedule, as the fitness journey is unique to each individual.
As two of the most iconic figures in bodybuilding, when Cutler and O’Hearn offer advice, the fitness community listens attentively.
